Invictus achieved three excellent results at the Dublin City Olympic Triathlon; with 381 competitors in this National Series Race it attracted some very high quality competitors. Cormac finished in an impressive 7th position overall (2hrs 13min) 4th in his age category, closely followed by Jonny H in 24th position overall in 2hrs 20min (2 minutes slower than last year but improved by 10 positions in the rankings) and Andrew finishing in 109th in 2hrs 35min (10minutes faster than last year and improving 50 positions in the rankings).
The day of the race was perfect racing conditions, light wind, sunshine and cool. The repeated warnings about Weil’s disease didn’t deter the competitors from swimming in the slightly murky Liffey. With Cormac finishing just 10minutes behind Ireland’s Olympic triathlete Gavin Noble, who knows what heights the club could reach in 4 years time?
Valuable lessons were learnt in pre-race preparation, with car travel times from Belfast to registration taking between 1hr 45mins and 3hr 45mins, and the 2km from registration to the hotel taking between 15mins and 1hour. Carb loading with 10oz steaks and massive plates of chips at 9.30pm the night before a race seems to yield good results.
Overall an excellently organised race with equally excellent results for the Invictus club, with more points clocked up towards the National Series individual and club rankings.
